And what level of life coaching will you need? This article gives all the information on how to select a life coach to help you fly higher in 2024.
What can you expect from a life coach?
For starters, a life coach will counsel, guide, inspire, and drive you to overcome personal and career challenges by eliminating your self-imposed obstacles to success.
Coaching helps you stop the crazy mind chatter that tells you you’re not good enough.
Oprah Winfrey – award-winning talk show host, television producer, actress, author
A life coach will then motivate you to achieve greater success and fulfillment by improving all the weak areas in your efforts to achieve higher goals. That is because:
We are making use of only a small part of our possible mental and physical resources.
William James – father of American psychology
A life coach will then empower you to find the best responses to opportunities and threats, just like a sports coach who drives you toward peak performance without actually participating in the game.
The teacher who is wise does not bid you to enter the house of his wisdom but leads you to the threshold of your mind.
Kahlil Gibran – Lebanese-American writer, poet, and philosopher
That means helping you awaken and use the vast innate human potential within you to find viable solutions to complex problems—without having your life coach by your side telling you what to do. So you can start improving your daily Game of Life without depending on your life coach for tactical guidance.
Do successful people also need life coaching?
Yes! Highly successful public figures like Oprah Winfrey, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Bill Clinton all work extensively with life coaches. They depend on life coaching to inspire them to continue pushing their limits while helping them sustain success under difficult conditions.
Everyone needs a coach.
Eric Schmidt – former CEO of Google
Why does everyone need a life coach?
No matter where you are, you are nowhere compared to where you can go.
Bob Proctor – bestselling author, speaker, coach
Even celebrity movie stars need good directors to coach them to deliver award-winning performances. Just as world-class sports stars need coaches to help them stay at the top.
Do you need a life coach?
Before you learn how to select a life coach to help you fly higher in 2024, you need to decide if you need one. For example, do you feel stuck in your daily life?
A life coach can help you get unstuck if you:
* are stuck in your life, pursuing career and life goals that don’t fulfill you;
* feel overwhelmed or anxious when responding to difficult situations;
* lack confidence due to low mental, emotional, and physical energy;
* have life goals that are vague and don’t know how to achieve them;
* know what you want to achieve but lack clarity, focus, and support.
After helping you get unstuck, can a life coach help you fly higher toward bigger goals?
A life coach will guide you toward higher levels of success by:
* being your greatest supporter and harshest critic;
* helping you eliminate all self-imposed limitations;
* inspiring you to progressively achieve higher goals;
* providing unbiased feedback on your progress;
* making you more focused for higher productivity;
* urging you to stay mentally sharp and physically fit;
* encouraging you to maintain a work-life balance;
* helping you unleash your vast human potential;
* guiding you from life coaching to self-coaching.
How to identify your specific needs?
Here is a simple method that takes only a few minutes.
Draw a table with four columns and several rows.
In the first column, on a new line, write one specific area of your life in which you wish to do better (E.g., more confidence; less anger; less anxiety). These should relate to your attitudes, behaviors, work, relationships, etc.—not any deep-rooted issues regarding your health, etc.
In the second column, against each such entry, write down a clear outcome you really want to achieve within next 3 months (E.g., speak and act more confidently; feel less angry; feel happier)
In the third column, prioritize each entry: 1 = first priority; 2 = second priority, etc.
In the fourth column, write down a dollar value you are willing to pay over the next three months to achieve your desired outcome.
This simple method takes all the guesswork out of determining what you expect from a life coach and the monetary value of the outcome you desire.
Don’t worry if you have high expectations on a low budget. That will motivate you to do more to fly higher while relying less on your life coach.
What level of life coach will you need?
How to select a life coach to help you fly higher in a particular area of your life or field of activity? You need to find a life coach who is already flying much higher than you. and helping others do the same.
For example, to guide a graduate-level student, a coach must have post-graduate qualifications supported by field experience and a good understanding of behavioral psychology.
So the answer to the question of how to select a life coach to help you fly higher will depend on where you are at present and how high you wish to fly.
For example:
An average life coach will help you do better by making incremental changes in the desired areas of your life (e.g., make your loving relationship work better.)
A good life coach will take you higher by helping you make transformational changes in the desired areas of your life (e.g., find the courage to switch to a more fulfilling relationship.)
A great life coach will lead you way beyond making changes in the desired areas of your life to enable you to win the bigger game of life (e.g., become more self-sufficient so you no longer depend on your partner for your happiness.)
What areas should life coaching cover?
The answer depends on where you are in your life, and how high you want to fly. If you want to work with a great life coach to fly to the highest level in your field, you need to improve all your life skills, attitudes, and behaviors to sustain your success—especially in a fast-changing world.
Achieving and sustaining success under unpredictably turbulent conditions requires a very broad set of life skills, such as:
* Caring for yourself and for everyone and everything around you.
* Emotional intelligence to manage negative emotions in you and others.
* Rational skills to reach tough goals using your knowledge and experience.
* Intuitive wisdom to change goals, attitudes, and behaviors when needed.
* Passion with focus to overcome setbacks and eliminate distractions.
* Mental and physical alertness to improve communication and responses.
* Healthy living to maintain stress-free and drug-free natural health.
Despite extensive interest in life coaching over several decades, I found no accepted model of coaching. So I formulated and published this new model in 2015 and used it to empower hundreds of people in dozens of organizations in seven countries.
All necessary life skills are embedded in this holistic Six-Skill Model for life coaching.
Heart: love and compassion for everyone and everything.
Mind: rational, intuitive, emotional, and spiritual intelligence.
Body: physical and mental energy and body language.
Passion: the fuel that transforms ordinary people into superstars.
Focus: overcoming setbacks and avoiding distractions.
Health: enjoying stress-free and drug-free natural health.
To help you fly high, especially against overwhelming odds, a life coach has to help nurture the six holistic life skills symbolized by Heart, Mind, Body, Passion, Focus, and Health.
Some level of success could be achieved by developing a few of these six skills. However, to achieve and sustain high levels of success under turbulent conditions and over long periods of time, you require all six skills.
